Psychodynamic Therapy
Deep and lasting change requires deep work.
Despite our best efforts, many of us find ourselves caught in the same patterns, repeating the same struggles. It can feel as if we’re of two minds — and in a very real sense, we are. Psychodynamic therapy works with the unconscious, helping us uncover emotional patterns so deeply learned they operate beneath our awareness.
These patterns often have roots in early relationships and past experiences — but that doesn’t mean therapy is only about the past. What was laid down then is lived out now. In our work together, we’ll explore how old wounds and protective strategies continue to shape your present, and we’ll build new ways of relating to yourself, others, and the world. This is a path not of denial, but of honest reckoning — one that opens the door to genuine, meaningful change.
EMDR and Trauma Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a highly effective, evidenced-based therapy for healing from trauma, painful memories, and overwhelming experiences.
During EMDR, I guide you through recalling troubling memories while engaging in dual attention stimulation. This process occupies your attention in a way that allows your brain’s natural healing ability to activate, allowing the memory to move from a raw, “triggering” state into one that feels more resolved.
My method also integrates trauma informed concepts to facilitate the processing of difficult experiences in a way that feels safe, manageable, and compassionate. We move at your speed and you are in control the whole time.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps identify patterns in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that contribute to distress, while offering practical ways to respond differently. My approach integrates CBT with compassion, acceptance, and mindfulness, recognizing that change does not come from self-criticism but from understanding and care. We work to notice thoughts without being ruled by them, develop tolerance for difficult emotions, and cultivate more intentional responses. This approach can be especially helpful for anxiety, depression, and trauma, supporting both insight and day-to-day coping.

About me
My name is Jeremy Hallock, owner of Communitas Counseling. I became a therapist out of the genuine desire to help. Growing up in rural South Georgia, I saw friends and family suffer unnecessarily. There was so much confusion around the root cause and it was often “treated” with substances or other forms of denial. Following my curiosity and compassion, my studies ranged from psychology, anthropology, and eastern philosophy. Working for a period at DFCS and community mental health. I learned the depths of the effects of generational trauma. I learned how suffering is communal, generational, and cultural, as well as profoundly individual. Through my studies, I was fascinated with the mechanisms of that interpersonal transmission of trauma, and the mechanisms of change. Why do people keep recreating what brings themselves and others pain? How do people break those patterns, transform themselves, and their lives? These questions continue to inspire me.
I have a great respect for my clients. Their experience is their own. Since becoming a therapist, I have witnessed many clients with unique stories find the courage and wisdom to claim better lives for themselves, and I am so deeply honored to be a part of that story. It is my job to provide the space and expertise to allow them to articulate their pain and desire, gain an alchemizing self acceptance, and find a way to live life more fully, openly, and freely. You may have noticed the tree motif throughout the website. Each tree grows in it’s own unique way, and thus it is not the therapists job to dictate that, but your own inner nature. A tree grows to be strong and tall, given the right environment. I believe therapy done well provides that holding environment so that your inner drive to grow can actualize.
